Virtual sound is on its way

Procedural sound, virtual sound, synthetic sound, computer-generated sound… however you may call it, creating real-life sound without using any recorded source material is still in its early stages. However, New Scientist published an article that describes how two scientists at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, are already able to produce fairly convincing virtual water sound.
