Beatbox to midi

Beatbox to midi

The idea of tapping a beat on your desk, beatboxing
a groovy break and then tweak the hell out of it with plug-ins… I
like it! Let’s check out some free stuff claiming to enable you to
intuitively rap&tap a beat:

BillaBoop

Unlike other audio-driven systems which
require a
lot of parameter tuning to be able to discriminate the sounds you are
playing, BillaBoop incorporates an efficient Machine Learning component
which enables the system to learn by demonstration. In a few seconds
you show the system what are the sounds you aim to use and you can
start using them. The program is fast enough to enable real-time
expressive performance. The amplitude and pitch of each drum hit can be
controlled automatically without the need of adjusting any slider.
Furthermore, the BillaBoop technology can be used in a range of
applications for enabling direct interactivity without the need of a
dedicated controller, and for offering personalised controls to a
user.

OK, so BillaBoop’s website
does not say anything
about downloading or even buying this software, nor does it provide any
information about why this is missing.

[ Edit: as requested I tried
to update the
links, but the new BillaBoop website doesn’t provide a download link,
neihter did extensive Googling yield any results

Smart electronic´s
KTDrumtrigger

Smart electronics are known for their
Livecut
glitcher plug-in. KTDrumTrigger is a VST plugin with a custom editor that
triggers MIDI notes based on the sound level of the incoming audio
stream in different frequency bands. It allows you to
“detect”
occurrences of percussive sounds in an audio stream and send out a MIDI
event whenever that happens. Basically the same as BillaBoop only with
more parameters.

There is a non-freeware version called
the
Drumagog.
I have no idea if it is any good. If you know a
fair share about MAX/MSP you can have a look at Bonk, a
percussion follower for Max/MSP
