Mad EP – Twenty Four Breakbeats

Mad EP – Twenty Four Breakbeats

Matthew Peters (aka Mad EP) has been influenced by Bach’s ‘Well-Tempered Klavier’ and Shostakovich’s ’24 preludes and fugues’ for years, and so decided to do something similar for the breakbeat.

In a time book sub-titles were small stories, Bach wrote one of the most important pieces of music ever; ‘Well Tempered Clavier’. It was the first collection of fully-worked keyboard pieces in all 24 keys.

He [Bach] first gave the title to a book of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys, dated 1722, composed “for the profit and use of musical youth desirous of learning, and especially for the pastime of those already skilled in this study.” Bach later compiled a second book of the same kind, dated 1742, but titled it only “Twenty-four Preludes and Fugues.” The two works are now usually considered to comprise the Well-Tempered Clavier and are referred to respectively as Books I and II. Besides flirting with classical music by composing in all 24 keys, Mad EP also flirts with classical instruments. Tracks like ‘c# minor’ also features strings and brass, combined with field recordings of children’s voices, a nice highlight of this free EP. Released on the lovely netlabel Acroplane.
